Kuroishi is a town that has produced many traditional folk performers, including singers, hand dancers, and shamisen musicians. Each August, it hosts Kuroishi Yosare, one of Japan’s three major traditional dance festivals, making Kuroishi one of eastern Japan’s leading centers of folk performing arts.
