Located in Kuroishi Onsenkyo, a secluded hot spring area of Kuroishi City situated east of the Hakkoda Mountain Range, this ryokan is found in Itadome Onsen, which boasts a history of over 400 years.
This small, family-run hot spring inn is operated by the young proprietress—also a New York–trained hairstylist—together with her parents.
Guests can enjoy the proprietress’s home-style local cuisine made with delicious Aomori ingredients, as well as meals that accommodate vegan and vegetarian guests.
Its convenient location, just a 40-minute drive to Mount Hakkoda, is another highlight.

Lamp no Yado Aoni Onsen

Aoni Onsen is a popular hidden hot spring inn, known as the famous “Lamp Inn,” with its main building and three detached guesthouses scattered along the mountain stream of the remote Aoni Gorge.
The inn remains open even during the heavy-snow winter season. This secluded hot spring area has no mobile phone reception, making it an ideal destination for a true escape.

Located in the heart of Komise Street, selected as one of Japan’s Top 100 Streets, this restaurant has been serving customers for over half a century.
Popular menu items that both locals and tourists love include the Hanakago Gozen set, Kuroishi Tsuyu Yakisoba, and Wariko Soba.
With advance reservation, guests can also enjoy vegan-friendly versions of Kuroishi Tsuyu Yakisoba and Tempura Rice Bowls (Tendon).

After 30 years of serving Italian cuisine in Tokyo, the chef reopened in his hometown of Kuroishi in November 2010. The restaurant’s name, “Sasso Nero,” means “Black Stone” in Italian.
Using as many locally sourced and Aomori-grown ingredients as possible, the restaurant offers authentic Italian cuisine. Lunch features pasta dishes, while dinner offers wine-friendly appetizers and popular meat dishes such as Saltimbocca.
Vegan options are also available, with three dishes adapted from the regular menu.

The craft shop offers approximately 800–1,000 handmade items. Created by 20 artisans, the selection includes clothing, chairs, bags, woodworking, lamps, Japanese small goods, accessories, and more—most of them one-of-a-kind.

This cafe, converted from a traditional house in the Nuruyu Onsen area, offers a relaxing atmosphere. Large windows look out onto a waterside scene with birds playing, and the gentle sound of the Asase Ishikawa River adds to the peaceful ambiance.
The menu features delicious and wholesome dishes made with favorite local ingredients such as vegetables, grains, and beans, combined with traditional seasonings.
