Vegetarian Support Chart

Vegetarianism is not common in the Japanese countryside. Please double-check the Vegetarian Type which the service provider can accommodate to make sure that it meets your needs. Katsuo Dashi (fish broth) is used for many types of seasoning and is very difficult to remove from traditional Japanese cooking. Often being able to eat trace amounts of the ubiquitous Katsuo Dashi (fish stock) makes it easier to find options.

NOTE: It is difficult and not culturally sensitive to change meal requests, or make new meal demands, onsite when you arrive at accommodations. Vegetarian types must be confirmed during the reservation process and respected during your visit.

good stay for vegan

Tabi-no-Yado Saikawa

Saikawa ryokan is a very homey ryokan run by a tasteful and stylish young proprietress and her family. The ryokan inside is designed in a very exotic Brooklyn/Japan style. It is such a wonderful place that after staying one day, you will want to stay another night.
Of course, the food is superb. The proprietress carefully selects healthy local ingredients and offers homemade local dishes and vegan and vegetarian menus.

Lamp Inn Aoni Onsen

Located deep in the mountains, Aoni Onsen is an exotic hot spring resort with no cell phone reception, no plugs in the rooms, and only the light of a lamp to light up the night.
It is even snowier than the city, so you can take a bath in four different hot springs while enjoying the view of the heavy snowfall. Tourists from all over the world come to seek out this unexplored region.
It is about 50 minutes away from Hakkouda ski resort.

renting private homes and rooms KITAYAMA HOUSE

It is run by Ms. Lee from Malaysia and her Japanese husband. Located in a normal residential area, you can experience the life of an ordinary Japanese family. The rooms are decorated with tasteful furnishings by Lee, who is from Malaysia, and the house is a delightful mix of beautiful East Asian culture even though you are in Japan.
She also specializes in Malaysian cuisine, local dishes of the region, vegan cooking, and apple pie baking. We have the most fun cooking experiences after buying ingredients at the supermarket together and BBQing in the backyard. It feels like having a family in Japan.

Hotel Hoshun

The hotel is just a few minutes' walk from Komise-dori, a street with beautiful old streets. All rooms have showers, and you can choose from Western-style or Japanese-style rooms. Popular Japanese restaurants, izakayas, and yakitori restaurants are within walking distance. There is also a karaoke snack bar on the premises, and we recommend communicating with the Japanese, much to the delight of visitors from outside the prefecture. It is a very good location to enjoy the city at night.

Breakfast is available for vegans and vegetarians with reservation.

Kazen no Sho

Kazen no Sho is a hot spring hotel that boasts beautiful tatami flooring and intricate designs throughout the entire facility. Combined with its garden that’s spectacular every season makes for a lavish experience. The baths here are extra spacious and will leave you feeling like you have the whole hot spring to yourself. The hotel is also situated right next to the Tsugaru Traditional Craft Center and the Tsugaru Kokeshi Museum.

Pescatorian menu is available by reservation only.
